Ulta: Banana Rum in the Sun

Here is another polish I got on clearance at Ulta. And I'm glad I did - Banana Rum in the Sun may be my favorite yellow yet. Color-wise anyway. The formula leaves a bit to be desired. This was... 5 coats I believe. Quite a bit. But it was necessary to get the bottle color. But I think the color looks better on me than China Glaze Lemon Fizz. And it is far less chalky. Maybe because it is so sheer.
On to the pictures...

China Glaze: Lemon Fizz

I like this polish. It is a nice, pretty creme pastel yellow. The application isn't the best - but it certainly isn't the worst. This was three coats, which is pretty average for me with polishes. It probably could have been two if I let each layer dry all the way before applying a new one. But I'm too impatient for that. I'd rather rush through and have to do an extra coat.. silly, I know. Anyhoo - here it is...

It makes me wish I had gotten some more polishes from the Up and Away collection - which I poo-pooed last year and didn't get any from. I only grabbed this because it was on clearance at Ulta for only 1.99. But I'm super glad I got it. I've been in a yellowey sort of mood lately.

Claire's: Happy/Earthy

Well I grabbed these mood polishes a while ago when I saw a bunch of them one day at the mall. And I have to say - I'm really disappointed. Maybe it is that I'm too cold. Or warm. I don't know. But for the most part these polishes don't change at all. At least the ones I've tried. I got 4 of them, but I only wore 2 and just didn't even feel like trying the other two. I'll definitely get around to swatching them one day. But probably not any time soon.
I also am not a fan of the finish. I know some people like the semi-matte finish (a la Orly Plastix collection) but.... for the most part I don't. Sometimes it really works, but most of the time I hate it. Well, here are some pictures of Happy/Earthy. My favorite of the two I've tried. Though that isn't saying much.

Sally Hansen: Lightening

I like yellow. It is such a cheery color. I don't think it looks that good on me - but I love it anyway. This yellow polish isn't bad, but it isn't great either. But it is widely available at every Walmart, Target, Walgreens, CVS, and any other store you can think of - so that's a plus. Sally Hansen Lightening from the Insta-Dri line. I usually like the colors from the Insta-Dri line and don't like the formula. And that holds true for this polish as well. It is really opaque, which is good. But it is also very thick and streaky, so it requires numerous coats regardless of the fact that it is pretty opaque. I don't know about you guys, but if I'm going to do numerous coats, I want them to be thin. Because what happens with me when I wear the Insta-Dri polishes is that the final product ends up being so thick it takes foreverrrrr to dry. And then I bump my hands into things and dent my polish and then I just end up taking it off. Which is exactly what happened to me when I wore this. But if you are willing to deal with all of that, it really is a nice color yellow.

Claires: Neon Yellow

And finally the last one. Thank god! Here's Claire's Neon Yellow.

This is a true highlighter yellow. I just wish there was better coverage. This was 5 coats. I think you'd be much better off using China Glaze's Yellow Polka Dot Bikini or something along those lines.

Claires: Pastel Yellow

And the yellow,
Not much to say about it except that, again, I really like the color - but I really hate the formula. Though I'll probably keep it around only because I don't have any other pastel yellows. But I do know that they are out there, so don't settle for this one, because better exist.

Pure Ice: Excuse Me

Howdy,

Continuing on our Pure Ice journey, I present to you Excuse Me. Which personally I think is one of the most awesome colors of their whole collection. For a variety of reasons. Number one - its YELLOW. Veryyyy yellow. Which is cool! I was definitely on quite the yellow kick earlier this spring and this is by far my favorite yellow.

While it doesn't exactly mesh perfectly with my skin tone - I feel that this is the most forgiving yellow that I've tried. I think its because of the shimmer, reflecting off light and changing the color of the polish from light to deep yellow. For me, it looks much better than some of the yellow creams that I have. I'll have to try some other yellow shimmers and see if they are in the same vein as this.

Okay - so let me talk about the other major reason this is my favorite yellow. The application!!! It's a dream! for real! Usually with my other yellows I get major streakiness. For some reason as soon as I put a second coat on, the coat underneath lifts up and it's just overall pretty disappointing. Because the next thing I know I have 4 - 5 coats of a polish on and I'm desperately trying to get it to even out. Ugh. I'm frustrated just thinking about it. But this - this folks is two coats! In fact, all of these Pure Ice's are two coats. When it says on the bottle: Apply two coats. They mean it! The first coat may seem pretty sheer on a lot of the polishes, but I PROMISE you that once that second coat goes on it instantly becomes opaque. Another reason why Pure Ice is awesome.
